Great Events Deep Meanings – Taster Pack
6 Session – Taster Pack
This 6-session discussion course focuses on some of the most significant days in the Christian year and considers their implications for us as individual believers and Christian communities.
Save money by buying our convenient Taster Pack of printed materials which comprises 1 course booklet, CD and transcript – everything a Group Leader needs to assess, and then to prepare for, the new course.
Great Events, Deep Meanings
Great Events, Deep Meanings is one of our two courses with 6, rather than 5, sessions. The other 6-session course is Live your Faith.
Long gone are the days when everyone knew what the main festivals and holy days of Christianity were all about.
By focusing on some of those special events – Christmas, Ash Wednesday, Palm Sunday, Good Friday, Easter and Pentecost – we can learn a lot about the Christian faith and maybe even get rid of some old ideas that have been unhelpful in the past.
Great Events, Deep Meanings explains clearly what the feasts and fasts are about and challenges us to respond both spiritually and practically. There are even a couple of quizzes to get stuck into!
All York Courses are designed to be used by people from any background. But Great Events, Deep Meanings would be especially useful for those who may be new to church life or who want to know about the rhythms of the Church’s seasons.
2. Ash Wednesday
3. Palm Sunday
4. Good Friday
The course booklet, written by Canon John Young, includes questions aimed at provoking wide-ranging discussion. Each group needs 1 copy of the course audio, plus a course booklet for each member. In addition many groups find the transcript invaluable.
The participants on the course audio are Revd Dr John Polkinghorne, Gordon Wilson, Bishop David Konstant, Dr David Hope, Dame Cicely Saunders and Fiona Castle.
Revd Brian Hoare introduces the course and Canon John Young provides the Closing Reflection at the end of each session.
