Sir John Houghton CBE FRS

Sir John was Professor of Atmospheric Physics at Oxford before becoming a Director General of the Met Office. He is the founder of the Hadley Centre, and President of the John Ray Initiative, an organisation “connecting Environment, Science and Christianity”, where he has compared the stewardship of the Earth, to the stewardship of the Garden of Eden by Adam and Eve. John is a founder member of the International Society for Science and Religion.

A committed Christian since his teenage years, he is a leading figure in the world of climate change/global warming, advising governments and chairing the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). In recognition of his work, on 10 December 07 Sir John Houghton joined Al Gore and a small UN Climate Change Team to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.
